Rowland-Rouse
In 1921 Martin Walter moved to 13 King Street from their temporary premises at 9 High Street, they also had a garage in Queens Gardens. At this time they were the Ford Dealer for both Dover & Folkestone. Martin Walter had a coachbuilding operation at 82-90 Tontine St, Folkestone, as well as being a leading dealer for other manufacturers cars and motor cycles throughout Kent.
Ford had a policy that they insisted that their dealers were exclusively Ford (and Lincoln), and this was an issue.
In 1922 Rowland Rouse (an ex Martin Walter sales director) took on the Ford dealership at this site and 2 Cheriton Rd, Folkestone.
By 1924 The site was up for sale.
Below you can see a (1930's) map, showing the position of 13 King st, and a photo of the site Courtesy of Paul Wells (date unknown)
